2024 Historic building architects gain new talent 1

We are delighted to welcome back Architectural Assistant Twearly Peaster to our Somerset studio. After undertaking her RIBA Part I Architectural Placement with us in 2021 Twearly went on to Central Saint Martins in London to continue her Part II studies.

While she was there her main project focussed on how traditional farm buildings could be reused to encourage agroecological and community centred farming. The project was viewed with a hyperlocal material lens and explored the geology and forestry of Somerset’s Quantock Hills. Another group project involved creating a reflective space using timber, to broaden ways of thinking and understanding, and used shingles hewn from Quantock timber.

We are thrilled to have Twearly back in the JRA studio.

We also say goodbye to Architectural Technologist Rick Gilroy and Part I Architectural Assistant Charlie Matheson.

Rick joined Jonathan Rhind Architects as a trainee technician, before obtaining a BTEC; an HNC in construction; and qualifying as a Chartered Architectural Technologist (MCIAT) during his time with us. Last year Rick embarked on an MSc course in Building Conservation at the Weald & Downland Living Museum, and is now, amongst other things, focussing on his studies. Rick’s technical skill, knowledge and experience from working on conservation projects in the practice made him a valued team member, and we wish Rick all the best for the future and hope he continues to do well with the Building Conservation studies.

Charlie Matheson has finished her year in practice placement with us and has returned to university to continue her RIBA Part II Architectural studies. We are thrilled that Charlie has gained a place at the Internationally renowned Glasgow School of Art, where she will ‘communicate through design, creating an architectural response to the ethical challenges facing the contemporary world.’ Glasgow School of Art website.

It was great having Charlie in the office, engaging with projects, clients, consultants and the rest of the team enthusiastically and effectively. We wish you all the best with your studies.
