West devon large country house renovation

Work has restarted on the refurbishment and additions to a large country house near Oakhampton in west Devon.

The contractors, J E Stacey of Holsworthy, are coming back to work, suitably socially distanced with pairs of workmen operating in separate areas around the property. There are challenges with site access, break times and at the beginning and end of the day, however, they are getting to grips with the new working practices.

Work was halted in the kitchen and boot room area when asbestos was found on some old disused heating pipes. It was removed during the contractors’ shut down of the site during April – a rare example of asbestos not being a difficult interruption to normal working.

New shutter linings and architraves are going in before redecoration starts in the main house. The new Orangery is progressing well, with the timber structure to the roof continuing and lead workers measuring up before ordering lead for the gutters and roof work next week.

Keep an eye on the website for more updates as work progresses.
