Jonathan Rhind Architects are the first in the Southwest to pioneer a new, streamlined approach to the listed building consents process for historic estates. We have recently led the development of a Local Listed Building Consent Order (LLBCO) for the Clovelly Estate to provide a consents framework for the Estate’s ninety-eight Grade II listed buildings. As part of recent changes to Planning legislation, LLBCOs can grant blanket listed building consent for routine works on groups of similar buildings. The LLBCO removes the need for repetitive consent applications, saving time and improving the quality of listed buildings for estate owners and their tenants.

We are delighted that the LLBCO for the Clovelly Estate has been confirmed by Torridge District Council and is now in place for the next 25 years.

The LLBCO will:

  • Streamline and clarify the consents process for the most common Grade II listed building consent applications for historic estates.
  • Provide clear and reliable information to help estate managers plan and undertake upgrading work to numerous Grade II listed buildings for a period of up to 25 years.
  • Enable upgrading works to be undertaken promptly and to a high quality; preventing deterioration of listed buildings, minimising void periods between tenancies and reducing disruption to rental income.
  • Provide a pre-approved, practical and consistent toolkit of drawings and specifications for contractors to use across the estate.
  • Ease capacity issues for estates and local authorities by reducing time spent submitting and reviewing repetitive listed building consent applications.

Our Local Listed Building Consent Order for the Clovelly Estate covers 98 listed buildings within the historic Clovelly Village and wider estate. The LLBCO covers common upgrading works including window replacements, chimney adaptations for woodburners and energy efficiency upgrades such as secondary glazing.

Please get in touch if you would like to discuss how LLBCOs can improve the management your historic estate.
