CIAT Conservation Accreditation for Peter Thompson
— 23 Apr 2024
Congratulations to Senior Architectural Technologist, Peter Thompson, who has attained CIAT Conservation Accreditation. This is a well-deserved achievement, which recognises the knowledge and skills Peter has gained working with listed buildings and sensitive conservation sites over many years.
The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) is an internationally recognised body which leads, promotes and represents Architectural Technologists and maintains standards of Architectural Technology. The Conservation Accreditation scheme is a further level of accreditation which is recognised by national heritage bodies such as Historic England and identifies ‘Chartered Architectural Technologists competent in the conservation of historical buildings/assets and their surroundings.’ (CIAT website).
To achieve accreditation, Peter had to demonstrate his abilities in the field of conservation through five units of measure: knowledge, analysis, techniques, methods and expertise. Peter used his experience working on several recent projects to demonstrate these skills including, a grade II listed regency villa in Gloucestershire; a grade I listed medieval manor house in Somerset and an HLF-funded church repair project.
Peter’s accreditation recognises not only his technical abilities, designing solutions to complex challenges in heritage environments, but also the ability to take a holistic approach, managing projects in the wider context of funding, planning, sustainability, ethics etc.
This is a fantastic personal achievement, and also helps embed Jonathan Rhind Architects’ ongoing commitment to excellence in conservation architecture.
