Exmoor, Somerset New house and outbuildings on the site of an existing dilapidated farmhouse, on an exposed site with stunning views on the top of Exmoor. The design included a large family room, sitting/dining room and kitchen, a formal drawing room, library and domed central stair hall. The usual domestic offices are in a protected courtyard to the rear - leading on to farm buildings. The brief asked for a classical house, built to modern standards.Work started after extensive negotiations with Natural England for a bat licence to allow the demolition of the existing house which had a maternity roost for bats by providing alternative temporary roosts and permanent bat accommodation in the new house. The design has elegance, proportion, scale and quality of materials as well as the modern comforts of underfloor heating and draught proof windows.
