Hartland Abbey Essential roof repairs to Grade I listed Hartland Abbey, which despite regular maintenance had reached the end of its effective life, putting the house and its contents at risk. The house is sited in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), on the heritage coast and in the North Devon Biosphere, and is archaeologically, historically and culturally important. The works had to be undertaken over winter and within a tight time frame, and involved coordination between specialist contractors, suppliers and organisations to ensure the specialist conservation works were completed to Historic England’s high standards and within a tight programme. The works were enabled by a grant from the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund and administered through Historic England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
