St Michael's Mount Jonathan Rhind Architects have been appointed by the St Aubyn Estate and The National Trust as Conservation Architects for St Michael’s Mount in Marazion, Cornwall.The 57 acre estate is dominated by the grade I listed 12th Century church and adjoining castle, however, the estate comprises over 100 listed structures including houses for employees of the estate, a dairy, sail yard, second world war pillboxes and cemetery.The upkeep of these structures is an extensive ongoing exercise. JRA have undertaken a detailed condition survey of the Castle, C12 church and numerous other listed buildings across the island to provide a holistic view of condition and develop phased repair and regeneration programmes. The condition report informs the long-term strategy for the island’s continued upkeep and future upgrading projects.The condition survey is a major undertaking, coordinating digital survey information with hands-on inspections and non-destructive testing. A comprehensive Gazetteer of all exterior conditions and individual rooms has been compiled. The documentation is reviewed and updated annually, as part of a valuable Building Management system for the Estate.Aerial images © St Aubyn Estates
