Suites at Woolsery The redundant rooms above the J Andrew Shop and Post Office in Woolsery have been reimagined as luxury suites for the Wulfheard Manor hotel. Previously residential rooms, they had been unused for many years. On the first floor, two suites have been created while on the second floor there are two further bedrooms. To enable the conversion of the second attic floor, the ridge of the building was raised slightly reinforcing the prominence of the shop at the centre of village life. The new slate roof incorporates scalloped slate bands and contrasting striped brick chimneys, which historic photographs show were originally features of the late 19th Century property.Inside, the suites are flooding with natural light from the Crittall-style metal framed windows by Fabco. On the top floor one suite has a large scale rooflight looking directly onto the tower of the Grade I listed All Hallows church across the street and the other, a picture window with sweeping views across the village to the countryside beyond. Bespoke carpentry makes the most of the spaces, and the clever interior design evokes a time of past luxury.Interior photographs courtesy Michael Grubb Studio, © Adam Lynk; © Matt Austin Project team:Client: Michael and Xochi Birch - The Collective at Woolsery Architects: Jonathan Rhind Architects Construction: Anthony Branfield Carpentry & Building Landscape Architects: Urquhart & Hunt Interior Design: New Heritage Design Lighting Design: Michael Grubb Studio
