Lauren v2

The Shirwell studio was delighted to welcome Lauren Milnthorpe last month. Lauren is an experienced Architectural Technologist, who graduated from the University of West of England with a first class degree gaining the highest overall mark on the course as well as achieving the CIAT ‘Outstanding Graduating Student’ award.

She also achieved a merit in the Conservation of Historic Buildings at the University of Bath, and has a passion for historic buildings; their conservation, ongoing maintenance and reuse for modern living. Her particular interest lies in the Arts & Crafts movement, and her master’s dissertation explored Influences of British vernacular architecture on the Arts & Crafts Movement, with reference to three buildings designed by Edwin Lutyens in the County of Surrey.

Lauren spent many years in practice in the South East before moving to the Devon countryside where she can continue to follow her passion for riding and competing in dressage.

Lauren is experienced in handling listed and historic building projects from initial concept and design stages to contract administration and inspecting construction. Since joining the practice she has been working on detail drawings to improve the spatial arrangement and connectivity of a mid-19th Century house for modern living needs, as well as the challenge of designing a technically and geometrically complex Orangery for a Grade II* listed building in an elegant form.

It is great to have Lauren on board, bringing enthusiasm to the role, and bringing her skills and experience to the practice. Welcome!
