Congratulations are in order for Rick Gilroy, one of the newest members of the Jonathan Rhind Architects team who has recently completed the first year of his Higher National Certificate (HNC) Construction qualification.

We are keen to support aspiring Architects and Technologists and have been supporting Rick’s progression since he joined us in 2015 while undertaking a BTEC in Architecture and the Built Environment at Petroc College, which he completed last year.

Rick progressed onto HNC Construction studying at Petroc College in partnership with Plymouth University, and is on track to achieve a distinction in his second and final year commencing in the autumn.

We are continuing to support Rick’s studies through regular Continual Professional Development events, in-house workshops and regular site visits and he has shown promise and enthusiasm.

Rick has studied a range of topics including construction management and technology, design principles, health, safety and welfare, professional ethics and practice, science and materials with maths.

He is looking forward to extending his knowledge base and learning about computer aided design software, group project working, law and contracts, production management, surveying and tendering and estimating.

Rick is exploring options for further academic and professional development upon the completion of his course. Options include a part time architectural degree course or vocational training in practice which would involve ongoing and tailored Continual Professional Development and on-site experience in order to become a Chartered Architectural Technologist through the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists.

Rick said: “I am thoroughly enjoying the HNC Construction course and the support and experience I have gained from working with Jonathan Rhind Architects has been invaluable.”

Associate director Martin Sturley-Hayes, added: “We want to support the next generation of Architects and Technologists and Rick is gaining all the necessary knowledge and skills to progress in the profession. Well done Rick!”
